Why the World Doesn't Need Ebay

For many years the auction site Ebay has, it is safe to say, dominated the world of second hand sales online.

Now, i've been a member of ebay for about 4 years now. I have enjoyed many an afternoon searching for random rubbish and making the odd purchase.

But now i think Ebay's rules and policies have taken a turn for the worst, to the point where i'm fed up with them.

First off, they removed the option to pre-approve bidders.

This meant that absolutely anyone could bid on your item.
This was the first step to Ebay turning itself into a scammers paradise.

More recently, Ebay's trading policy has changed so that Sellers are no longer able to leave negative or neutral feedback.
As a seller myself i think this is ridiculous, i've had plenty dealings with non-paying bidders and i think that not being able to warn other sellers of this is a sin.

Finally, there is the Paypal argument.
It is well known that Paypal and Ebay fall under the same corporate umbrella.
Paypal has many flaws.
Not to mention the e-mail scams, that is, the fake "paypal payment received" e-mails that trick sellers into thinking they have been paid, they then post the item and go to their paypal account to see they haven't actually received anything. (Happened to my uncle, selling a phone, lost somewhere in the region on £100)
Following on from this, paypal always side with the buyer. All they need to do is open a dispute that they haven't received the item and paypal will withdraw the funds from the seller's account.

To conclude, Ebay was something great, now it is just a playground for scammers. I certainly will not be putting any more items up for sale on this particular auction site.
